It’s finally here! The gut-wrenching, nail-biting full length trailer we have all been waiting for has arrived! Ghostface takes a stab at the Big Apple, and all of us watching have so many theories, speculations, and questions. As we learn, this Ghostface is something different and unlike all the others we've seen before.

From the first teaser trailer, we spot countless costumes roaming New York City paying homage to some of our favorite horror movies, and then we see spot our survivors, Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and a new face to the group (Josh Segarra), on a crowded subway. What could go wrong? They suddenly spot multiple Ghostface costumes on the train immediately feeling skeptical of their surroundings. As one of them tilts its head and then stands in the middle of the crowd staring at them, the train goes dark and we see Mindy looking afraid and possibly not near the group. And once the lights come back on, Ghostface is face front appearing to attack her.

This builds so much tension and anxiety because it’s a brand new setting surrounded by so much craziness. As we follow our survivors Sam, Tara, Chad, and Mindy to New York City for college (minus Sam) leaving their traumatic pasts behind them to start a new, clean slate, danger continues to follow finding them once again. I am curious to see how they all have moved on and how each character is processing the events from the previous film. I also have a feeling not all of them are going to make it out alive. Here’s my list of what we know so far and possible theories based off of the trailer.
1. New Location We are leaving Woodsboro once again, and this time we are going to New York City. I am curious to see how this pans out, and from the trailer it does look pretty fun. With the city already being such a busy, frantic environment, will anyone pay any mind to people being terrorized by Ghostface? From the trailer, we see Sam and Tara run into a bodega seeking help. No one pays them any attention and once Ghostface shows up, all hell breaks loose - especially when he gets his hands on a gun! I’m already excited! I'm even hoping for a reenactment subway shove from Jason Takes Manhattan. It's too funny and priceless!

2. Gale Weathers Returns!
Courteney Cox reprises her role as Gale Weathers and of course we are excited!! I am sad we will no longer get to see her and Dewey as a team anymore! Yet we also see she gets her very first interacting phone call with Ghostface! We know how those usually go - especially when we see in the trailer the call coming from inside her apartment, someone silently getting attacked, and one hell of a possible showdown. Our beloved legacy character better be protected at all costs!
3. Kirby Reed!
The Big Apple is large enough for a huge reunion, including the return of Hayden Panettiere reprising her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4! It will be fun to see where she has ended up since the 2011 Woodsboro murders and her joining forces with Gale to help take down Ghostface. Fans were ecstatic to learn she survived from a partial Easter egg in 2022’s Scream. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she makes it out alive in this upcoming film.
4. Ghostface Cult?
Theories keep circling around alluding to multiple characters being Ghostface, and that there’s a possible cult brewing. From what we see in the trailer, we get a peek at a Ghostface shrine display the characters stumble upon and find. And from what we see displayed are items from previous Scream films including Steve's letterman jacket, Jill's flannel outfit, Stu's robe, the wooden star play prop, and all the Ghostface costumes each killer wore, to name a few. I don’t know how I feel about this one per say, but hopefully it’s not going that route.
5. New Faces
Some new faces are added to the group including Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Devon Nekoda, and Liana Liberato, to name a few. I’m curious to see how close they are to our Woodsboro survivors, and if one or a few of them are possible Ghostface killers walking among our protagonists. With the Scream franchise, you just never know!
6. One of the Carpenter Sisters is Ghostface
What I assume in the trailer is Sam sitting in therapy airing out everything to her therapist, and she says, “there’s a darkness inside of me”. Not to mention a theory floating around that Sam may become the new Ghostface, since it’s close to home with her connection to Billy Loomis. Yet, other theories are circling around that Tara could be Ghostface, assuming she was Richie and Amber's accomplice from the previous events. Richie even tried to manipulate Sam into thinking her sister was the killer. And in the trailer, we see Tara possibly hanging off a ledge and she has this interesting evil smirk on her face. If the movie did go in this route, we definitely need all the answers!
7. Stu Macher Returns
This is by far my favorite fan theory of Stu Macher returning to the franchise, although it has been stated that he is not and his character is indeed dead. It would be a fun and wild twist if we were told that to be thrown off, and we see him in Scream 6. From the trailer, when we see Ghostface in Gale’s apartment, he wipes the knife off in a familiar way we have seen before (but I could be wrong)! Not to mention the creative New York City subway marketing poster shaped like a Ghostface, implementing all the characters (mainly victims) from the Scream movies. We see Stu Macher’s stop is a slight pink color, opposed to everyone else’s being white, all stops leading to Sam, and Kirby’s reading as closed (since her fate was unknown at the time). Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I would love to see Stu make a comeback!
8. Sidney Not Returning I am extremely sad that Neve Campbell is not returning for the next installment. We did learn last year she was not reprising her role as Sidney Prescott due to contract negotiations and feeling “undervalued”. Sidney is definitely one of my favorite badass final girls to this day! She is a legacy character and I know it will not feel the same, but I hope we get a mention of her in the new movie. I can’t guarantee we would get a cameo either.
Scream 6 will be released March 10, 2023. Starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Hayden Panettiere.
